XRP Ledger’s Resurgence: Driving Global Payments & Tokenization
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is re-emerging as a pivotal infrastructure layer, powering real-world payments, stablecoins, and tokenized assets globally. For years, XRP was an underdog, but its recent legal clarity—confirming its retail sales are not securities and settling institutional violations—has been transformative. This legal certainty enabled Ripple to secure over 40 US money-transmitter licenses, providing a nationwide footprint for crypto-fiat settlement and immediate integration with regulated payment partners.
XRPL’s renewed utility is evident in significant institutional adoption. In Japan, SBI Group and Tobu Top Tours are issuing prepaid travel tokens on the XRPL, targeting a $200 billion market to drive cashless tourism and local commerce. Singapore’s Webus International is leveraging XRPL for a tokenized travel-rewards exchange, aiming to unlock liquidity in the $100 billion loyalty market by converting points into transferable digital assets. The network also positions itself as a compliance-ready alternative for remittances in regions like Africa and Southeast Asia.
Furthermore, XRPL is making strides in the stablecoin and Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization markets. Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, prioritizing strict KYC and AML, has gained institutional usage, including settling Bullish’s $1.15 billion IPO proceeds. The Multi-Purpose Token (MPT) Standard introduced by XRPL allows digital asset issuers to enforce regulatory controls directly at the protocol level, attracting major stablecoin issuers like Circle’s USDC. Positioned as a base layer for RWA tokenization, XRPL now handles over $360 million in assets, ranking among the top 10 chains. Experts foresee XRPL becoming a multi-trillion annual throughput ledger for cross-border treasury and high-grade RWA settlement by 2030, driven by its compliance-embedded architecture.
