Russian Crypto Fraudster and Wife Murdered in UAE Ransom Plot

Russian entrepreneur Roman Novak, a convicted crypto fraudster, and his wife Anna were abducted and brutally murdered in the United Arab Emirates, following a failed kidnapping plot linked to substantial digital assets. Novak, notorious in St. Petersburg for defrauding investors, had previously served a six-year prison sentence for large-scale fraud. After his release, he relocated to Dubai, where he launched the Fintopio crypto app, allegedly raising hundreds of millions from new investors.

In early October, the couple vanished after attending what they believed was an investor meeting near the UAE-Oman border. Investigations by Russian and UAE authorities revealed they were lured to a rented villa under false pretenses, turning a business meeting into a kidnapping. The perpetrators intended to coerce Novak into granting access to significant crypto funds held in wallets and accounts associated with his Fintopio app and previous schemes. When their attempts to secure the money failed, both Roman and Anna were killed, their bodies dismembered and left in containers near a Hatta shopping center.

The ongoing investigation has led to the arrest of seven suspects in both the UAE and Russia, including individuals from St. Petersburg and Kazakhstan, facing charges ranging from murder to financial crimes. The couple’s underage children were left orphaned by this horrific act, prompting Anna’s family to travel to Dubai to care for them.
