Ripple’s 2040 Vision: The Amazon of Global Payments Infrastructure

Analyst Jake Claver projects Ripple to emerge as the dominant force in global payments and banking infrastructure by 2040, likening its trajectory to Amazon's early, unnoticed build-out of supply chains. Claver argues that Ripple is quietly laying the groundwork for future financial systems, focusing on backend payments and settlement, rather than primarily on cryptocurrency. This vision is heavily supported by Ripple's strategic acquisition spree, which has integrated crucial components for a comprehensive financial ecosystem.

Ripple's acquisitions include GTreasury, a cash management platform; Hidden Road, now rebranded as Ripple Prime, a clearing and prime brokerage firm; Rail, specializing in stablecoin issuance and management; and Metaco alongside Standard Custody, which combined to form Ripple Custody, holding a trust-chartered bank and a New York BitLicense. These integrated entities position Ripple as a robust provider of settlement rails, custody systems, and liquidity tools, anticipating the future needs of major financial institutions even before they publicly acknowledge them.

A key challenge identified is the potential for a significant sell-off among retail XRP holders. Claver estimates that between 30% and 50% of retail holders with substantial XRP positions might sell if the token reaches $10, a price point considered “life-changing money” for many. Data indicates approximately 250,000 individuals globally hold over 3,000 XRP. While acknowledging this as a rational move, Claver notes that institutional XRP holders, with whom he directly works, generally possess a firmer grasp of the long-term thesis and are less prone to early liquidation. To mitigate this, he has developed financial products allowing institutional clients to use XRP as collateral to earn returns without selling, thus supporting long-term holding. This strategic infrastructure development, despite potential short-term market fluctuations from retail holders, underpins Claver's “Goliath” prediction for Ripple.
